By Air - Most tourists to Mexico City come via air travel. Mexico City has two major airports: Benito Juarez International Airport and Licenciado Adolfo Lpez Mateos International Airport. The former, situated in the eastern district of Mexico City, is the busier of the two. Visitors flying in from the major cities of the world, such as London, Paris, Tokyo, Madrid, Toronto, Amsterdam and Buenos Aires will find it highly accessible due to the large number of airline services catering to these particular routes. The number of airline services hosted by the airport is constantly increasing; the recently built second airport terminal is testament to this fact. Do be sure to verify which terminal your plane will be arriving at or departing from.
The second major airport, Licenciado Adolfo Lpez Mateos International Airport, is in Toluca City, which is adjacent to Mexico City. It caters mainly to domestic budget airlines, such as Interjet and Volaris. Also, Continental Airlines has recently begun flying to this airport from Houston, USA. There are several shuttles to and from the airport that are sponsored by some of the airlines, you can take advantage of these shuttles if you need to travel from Mexico City to this airport. Licenciado Adolfo Lpez Mateos International Airport is also useful if you have a desire to explore other parts of Mexico.
By Bus - Another popular way of getting to Mexico City would be by bus. Naturally, such trips would be much cheaper than alternative air fares and more interesting too. This travel option applies to visitors traveling mainly from the United States of America, where you do not even have to transit onto different buses to get to Mexico City.
There are four main bus terminals within Mexico City: Terminal Autobuses del Norte. Terminal de Autobuses del Poniente, Terminal de Autobuses del Sur and
Terminal de Autobuses del Oriente. The different bus services will land their passengers at different terminals depending on which one they operate from, so it is important to ascertain which one in order to preplan your travel arrangements. In general, once you are at these bus terminals, it is easy for you to get to your preferred destination simply by hopping onto the adjacent metro stations. Do remember to keep a safe eye on your belongings while on the metro and avoid taking it at peak hours as they tend to get very crowded and this facilitates the progress of pick-pocketers.
