No one wants to have a dirty house. Even infamous pack rats wish that they could clean up and organize everything. It’s just a pain in the rear. You’re embarrassed to have people come in your house, to even have the mail man come up to the door to hand you a package. It’s only natural to want a clean organized house.

But you can clean and organize by yourself. All that’s required in regular old house cleaning is to vacuum, dust, pick up any trash, scrub the walls if they need it (If you live with a mechanic, then you know what is meant by this.), clean the sinks, toilets, faucets, and mop any floors.

However, there is one problem…

Carpets. These take the most abuse in a household. Half chewed gum, dog and cat hair, dirt and grime, and pretty much every other parasite that is residing in your home gets stuck in a carpet. Cleaning it can be difficult.

Sure there are sprays and powders used to make your carpets “fresh” and look good. And they work to a certain degree. But just because a scent seems to have disappeared, doesn’t mean it won’t come back. One example is cat urine. This is a rather disgusting subject, but if you’ve ever been in a house with someone with cats who use the litter box all over the house, then you know how horrible it can smell. Cats that are not spayed or neutered are even worse. There isn’t much you can do to get rid of the scent short of using baby detergent everywhere—and even then it’s difficult to get rid of the scent. Especially if it is allowed to seep into a carpet.

But in the same tune, couches and sofas take a lot of abuse and so do curtains. They need just as much attention during the daily house cleaning as anything else. They face most of the issues that carpets do. Did you know that if you smoke and attempt to quit, if you leave your old curtains up, it can cause you to have cravings again thanks to third hand smoke? Smoking also stains curtains. (If you leave white curtains up in a house with someone who smokes everyday in that room, then the blinds and curtains will turn yellow? YUCK!) These stains don’t come out with a wash cycle. Your best bet is to either toss them or have them cleaned professionally.

Although, in all honesty, it is best to clean MOST of the above items professionally. Carpets can be easily damaged if cleaned the wrong way (especially antiques or handmade carpets.). They can also accrue further stains that cannot be taken out. However, most professionals are able to clean your carpets and upholstery without adding any additional stains or damage. And if they are unable to for any reason, they will tell you that the cleaning is beyond their limitations and perhaps refer to another cleaner who specializes in cleaning whatever you’re looking to have cleaned.

House cleaning doesn’t have to be hard. All you need is a trusted carpet and upholstery cleaner.
