Ever wondered what it was like to live in Italy?  Rent an apartment or villa in Italy and you’ll soon know.  There is a niche travel market for home swap or apartment rentals that cater to those that want a more authentic experience when traveling abroad. Hotels are perfect for business travel, when you need to use their computer or fax machine—or even traveling for the sole purpose of a spa experience.  But if your aims are sightseeing and experiencing the culture of a region then a good B&B or rental is more suited for you.  In most cases, renting an apartment is also cheaper and more relaxing than spending your vacation in a hotel or B&B as it allows you the freedom to come and go as you please without disturbing anyone and you’re not paying for amenities or meals.

Rentals are easy to come by on the Internet.  Simply type in key words like: “cheap”, “Italy”, and “rental” and see what you come up with.  Perhaps, you’ll find a cheap flat above a winery outside Florence or Milan.  Maybe someone will rent out their villa in the hills of Amalfi.  Or maybe even you will find a view overlooking the Spanish Steps or Fountain de Trevi in Rome.  For the same cost as a week at the beach you could be sipping cappuccino at a café in Trastevere with the locals.  Take a spin on the Internet and see what it brings you.
